Strawberries and Cream French Toast

I  like french toast!  I just made some today for breakfast for me and my husband.  Normally we like to use   maple syrup on our toast but today, I just found a bottle of Wild Blueberry Syrup that I got a while back...anyway, it was delicious!!!

It's quick and easy.  Here is how to make it.

You will need:
6 slices of  day old bread, white or whole wheat. ( I used whole wheat french bread)
3-4  eggs
1 cup milk
1 tsp. orange rind
pitch of salt
2 tbsp. oil, for frying

Strawberries, or other fresh fruit, of your choice, (or compote, like peaches )
maple syrup or other syrup of your choice
1 cup whipped cream or cool whip, for topping
Cinnamon, to taste

Beat eggs in a medium bowl with 1/4 cup of the milk, until frothy. Add orange rind and salt.

Pour the rest of the milk in another bowl.  Dip each bread slice, lightly,  in the milk, then  dip each slice of bread in the egg wash, turning them until well coated.

Put a tablespoon of oil in a frying pan and fry each slice ,on medium low heat, turning once, until they are golden brown.  Remove and place them on a paper towel covered dish.  Cover them  to keep them warm until all slices are done.

Serve with your choice of fresh fruit, syrup and whipped topping of your choice. Add a sprinkle of cinnamon.

Enjoy!

TIP: Dipping them first in milk, makes them soft but if you like them more crispy, omit this step and just dip them straight in the egg wash.
